EDin May - Final

Lastly, "into each life a little rain must fall', after all there would be no lush green, and bountiful fruits and veggies, and no Life without rain. It seems fitting that the last day in May in New England is Rain - washing the canvas sky and land for a new month.

Sleeping Giant State Park in Hamden, CT http://www.ct.gov/Dep/cwp/view.asp?A=2716&Q=325264 is full of hiking trails and even a castle. I only see it occasionally from the highway - the giant is always in repose, but quite intriguing. Perhaps someday I will venture in.

May is gone now but the Every Day In May challenge has been invigorating, and sometimes exhausting. More importantly I have greatly enjoyed other's work as they participate. I will miss opening my computer to see what is 'new' each day.

Perhaps I will continue with every other day in June?

ED in May #30 - Iris

I have a lovely patch of iris that were planted probably 30 years ago - they continue to thrive. I only wish they would last longer as cut flowers. The Every Day in May challenge is coming to a close. It has indeed been a challenge for me as a full time working woman with many other responsibilities and travels in May - But tomorrow will complete the challenge successfully for me I am proud to admit. and it is bitter sweet, fun but relieving to have less pressure.

EDinMay - 29 Pool's Open

Every May the pool is opened and ready to go - except for the quite chilly water! Last year when our decks were rebuilt my wonderful son-in-law inlaid this huge mariner's star (around 6 feet long) It points due North and I Love it!

EDin May 20 - Birds

Didn't scan well, the birds are not quite this drab. Not sure what kind of birds I sketched, just found the colors pleasing . There are so many birds about now and quite a variety of songs being sung.

EDin May 17 - My favorite flower

My favorite scent - so short lived but glorious ! Not so thrilled with this watercolor, but the greens are better I think. I have had a ton of practice this May.

EDinMay #16 - Water Street

Attempted a quick plein aire sketch with tons of green again - there certainly is a lot of green in May here in New England. This is a lovely stretch of road very near town center - Water Street, with dried salt marsh grass reeds on either side.

ED in May 15 - escargot anyone?

An experiment in looseness and stronger values - I saw this snail garden decoration in a catalog and it brought back memories of the slimy critters and the havoc they create. Unfortunately they will be making a real appearance soon.

EDin May 13 - Race Day

Since 1999 I have done the Race for the Cure (except for years where a wedding and a recent grandchild birth kept us away). It is held the day before Mother's Day and my children and now their children participate. This year we were 5 adults and 6 grandkids / 5 strollers strong, quite a workout, fun and a very momorable, worthy cause .

EDM #170 Zipper, EDin May #12

My little travel sketchkit here, making an appearance as EDM #170 'zipper'. No great detail on the zipper, but it was late last night and I Had to get something sketched for the Every Day in May Challenge as well as last week's challenge - Whew - done.

Happy Mother's Day all!

EDin May10 - Aquarium visit

one I worked on this sketch off and on all week. Last Saturday we took all six grands to the Mystic Aquarium (5 boys all under age 3, and one girl age 5) There were 5 adults in all but we were still well out numbered. Everyone had a great time and we all survived :-) This page will remind me of some of that day's events.

Every Day in May 7

This lovely old oak tree near our middle school always catches my eye - it's large hole reminds me of the Charter Oak story (CT) and the lovely soft green foliage just emerging guaranteed it would be a EDMay entry. As usual I do not know what to do in the background ?? I added a dried up oak leaf and acorn found in my front yard. The cycle continues.

Every Day in May 6

Large and small - The grape hyacinth are all over my garden now, just as the daffodils wither. I love these little bouquets and of course had to include them in my May series. The large chrysanthemum is left over from a bouquet but looked so bright next to the hyacinth I include it. Not thrilled with this post over all but I do like the greens I mixed here .

Every Day in May #5

Pea Greens - more study of green, and May is full of green.

May #4 Artichoke

I purchased this artichoke just for sketching. I don't really like them as a separate dish, but fun to sketch, still not completely happy with the greens, I still have problems with greens, hopefully by months end I will have a handle on them.
