Ahh another sign of spring - A very special fresh treat. We grew asparagus many years ago. They do emerge from the soil as these alien looking "probes" and as they get tall (way beyond the picking stage) they branch out into a plant similar to the bushy asparagus fern many of us pot. It certainly took a ton of the asparagus roots to get enough shoots to harvest and eat. Ok, now how shall I cook them probably just a quick steam.

Robin Red Breast

Thank you all for your comments and suggestions, I did as the majority voted and added a slight blue wash - actually a bit more noticeable than this scanned. It does help, glad I did not 'fuss it up' but listened to your wise words. Thank you all for your support and suggestions.
A tidbit more of spring. I was unsure what to do for a background of this fellow, there is definitely something missing and I would appreciate suggestions.

Finally

Finally, a week later I have blooms.

EDM 164 Camera

Here she is, my biggest, most versatile digital camera. It's a couple of years old now but a very good camera capable of much more than I am. I have to admit though I use my handy little pocket Canon Power Shot more frequently. It is amazing how the digital format has changed my photography habits and led me to blogging. I guess you can teach an old dog new tricks !

Still Searching for Spring

Still on the hunt for spring. There is no snow and more sun and just a bit more warmth. My Forsythia hints of blooms so I broke off some branches to study more closely and force into bloom. I will keep you 'posted'.

Spring tease

I bought tulips for my Easter Table this year. I love tulips but cannot plant them because the deer love them even more than I do - and eat them bulb and all. But they are so lovely and these turned out to be pink instead of the red I guessed from the buds. Nice surprise though.
Before Easter dinner I trekked down to the water purposely to sketch and enjoy the peace and bright sunshine. Perched right in front of me was a seagull , quite intent on holding his position on the rock. Well he stayed long enough for me to get this quick portrait. I have been inspired by others lovely landscapes and gave it a try, I hope to update the same scene as the seasons march by - this scanned a bit strangely but then again my colors did not quite behave as I intended - plein air work is not easy (for me anyway).

My First Grid

This is my first attempt at a grid - I chose to address a work week. Fun although a bit difficult to lay out in my small hand.book sketch journal. ( and I really need to work on my self portraits!)

Peep Peep

Easter is on the way and the stores have been filled with candy for weeks. My children are grown with children of their own but for me these classics have memories attached to each sticky mouthful of fluff.
Inspired by Kate's (Cathy Johnson) post of peeps, I had to buy some and try my hand at these perennial favorites.

EDM #162 Breakfast

Ok this is the real deal, my usual plain yogurt, topped with healthy granola and of late a banana. There is always coffee afterward. Breakfast is my favorite meal and I would prefer, a breakfast buffet loaded with exotic fruits and pastries and waffles with real maple syrup, hashbrowns and bacon - but my real world prevails here.

Charley's Cafe

The last evening we spent on Sanibel Island we stopped into "Charley's", the resort's open air cafe. The overhead lights caught my eye - I did not manage to capture the actual light they projected but here it is.

Trigger Thumb

Oh Lord it's always something, My right thumb is injured and I have a condition called Trigger Thumb (no guns were involved). I cannot sketch with my left hand so here is a sketch of my left thumb - My right thumb is splinted but thankfully I can still sketch. If imobilizing it does not bring back normal function I may have to have a bit of surgery - fingers crossed that is not the case ;-)

EDM 161 Smells Great

Common choice, but I do Love this smell, and as I have a pot on my kitchen counter I decided to sketch it as it opens into full bloom. It just happens to be a favorite smell as well.

EDM 160 Trophy

Late, but posted now. And the page has the wrong challenge # it should be 160 where I got 156 I do not know!

St Thomas travels

Every morning breakfast outside with wonderful fruits and pastries and waffles or omlettes - and a hot cup of coffee of course - this center piece caught my eye and my paint brush. AND - Iguana every where, on the beach, in the trees, on the cliffs in the shrubbery - interesting dinosaurs to my eye. They say they don't eat meat, but will 'taste' a berry pink toe or two ;-) This guy paused in my path just long enough to get a quick sketch to which I added water color When I came across a dry , split coconut in my path, I hauled it back to our villa terrace for closer study and a sketch like all good tourists.
Who doesn't Love swaying palm trees on the beach,?Although NO hammocks. What's with that omission?? I will see if I can fit one into my suitcase next trip - this is how I picture it.
Well back in the real world now, I have other sketches to complete, and challenges to complete - it sure was fun and relaxing and fattening.

Sand Sun and Sketching

As some may have noticed, my blog has been idle for a few weeks. My dh and I were vacationing in St Thomas, USVI and Florida. enjoying some sun, sand and way too much eating (plus a rum drink or two ;) . I had no computer, but my trusty iphone did allow me to check blogs regularly -I must learn how to post from it next (but my skteches often need to up the brightness -sigh) Although very busy, I did do some sketching and have more to post.

Scenes from St Thomas

A few more sketches from St Thomas this February - First is a view of our villas at Morning Star. Lovely views of the ocean and St Johns beyond. The tide is minimal here (so near the Equator) so there is a constant level of crashing surf to enjoy . Next is the view from our villa up the reef to to main hotel, Frenchman's Reef - which looks a bit like a castle from this sketch During a tour of the island we visited the Grand House which showcased some lovely local flora, I wish I had noted their names.
