New Orchid

My newest orchid is blooming profusely - the flowers are pale lime green with sprinkles of orange- pink. It's absolutely gorgeous. I cannot paint flowers to my satisfaction, but I had to try to record this lovely specimen. I also tried to shake up my overall composition with some checkerboard here - I had already sketched the neat little lotion bottles we picked up at the hotel in Boston. Let me know what you think and critique/suggestions are Always Welcome.

Ready set - GO

I have been itching to start planting for weeks now - it's still too early with danger of frost. (yesterday 94 degrees - tonight danger of Frost, welcome to New England) But I have planted Pansies and violets, thankfully they are rugged little guys . Give me another couple of weeks and I will be OFF into the garden - and then extremely tired and sore shortly thereafter :-)

Can you say SWEEP?

My husband is from Maine so Red Sox blood runs through his veins. We have been to Florida Spring training several times, been to Fenway many times, but this game on Saturday afternoon was one of the best Ever (unless your a Yankee fan). What a great American way to spend an afternoon

Twisted Twisty

Harry Lauder's Walking Stick - My favorite bush is coming to life (the actual sketch on the left showing signs of sprouts) On the right is my interpretation as the leaves open. Eventually the leaves conceal most of the intricate twists and twirls of the branches (now a good 7 feet tall and wide). Winter snow turns this into a stunning sculpture. The cat tail like thingies are the reseeding system.

Happy Earth Day

April 22, 2009 Earth Day - a day to reflect on what we take for granted/abuse, and Think and Work and stop destroying this amazing place, Mother Earth before it is too late. Man is man's own worst enemy. I combined the EDM challenge "moon" with this special date - one needs the other ! as do we -

Calling Me

There is just something about little seedlings, so bright and energetic and enticing, I had to buy them, even though I can't plant outside for another MONTH!! Ok, there are worse addictions. (and more misspellings in my journal, why is it I cannot spell anymore??)

Virtual Sketch Date submission for April 2009
Done very quickly, trying to get loose and free - always a struggle for me - This scanned a bit brighter than it is - I like this depth of color though, so I must strive for stronger washes too!

Raining Violets

All of a sudden they are everywhere - violets that is, butterflies I am still awaiting.

Sprung

Daffodils are up, forsythia blooming finally and everything else ready to burst! I had to get in a quick sketch, I believe sketching Every Day is a key to improvement .

A Memorable Easter Run

I have to admit I did the skunk cabbage from memory last night - it looks more like aloe here :) -

Around Town #8

My favorite tree in winter - the silhouette always stands out as I stop for a street light on Route 1 (Boston Post Road) The congregational Church sits on the town green and the steeple is visible in the distance. And yes it does list to the left.

EDM 217 Umbrella

Friday it poured buckets, I even heard thunder - this challenge is very appropriate - I always found clusters of umbrellas rather artistic so I tried that approach, the top and bottom inserts seemed playful - Bright sun and 60 degrees today but More rain and cold coming tomorrow! April showers you know . . .

Pink and More Pink

We are thrilled to say the least!! Our youngest daughter is expecting twins (she has one son age 2) We have known for some time they are identical (share a placenta) but only Tuesday did we discover they are GIRLS!!! Perfect and Due Sept 1!! DH and I have a 'six-pack' of grandchildren now - Five boys age 3 and 2 (one set of twin boys). Our Very First grand child is a Girl, now age 6 - so we wondered if the wave of boys would ever end. Fun and more fun on the way!! Ok this sketch looks a little alien, but hey in reality they are in their 5th month in vitro! (I tried to duplicate Janeys Journey technique which I love)

Arizona Mesa

My older brother Mark now lives in Arizona. He and his wife love to hike and recently they sent me a beautiful picture begging for a sketch.
