EDM #93 Egg carton

Quite a challenge for me - I bought this half carton specifically for the challenge. I did a pencil sketch first, then had to check my (home made)watercolor mixing chart to have any idea what colors to mix. I started with the brown eggs in a light wash, then the same on the carton (was suppoosed to be more taupe instead of gray ? but I could not mix that) then I kept intensifying colors and adding depth and detail - probably overworked it? Then I knew it needed "grounding" - I took a deep breath :-) and added the dark gray under shading - This is probably the first real "WC only" work I have ever done and I am ( modestly) quite proud of how it came out - even though my non WC moleskine was not happy. Only through this site have I found the knowledge and support and freedom to give it all a try and have Fun!

I love it! As someone who is also learning watercolor by myself, I can appreciate how much problem solving you did and how interesting your eggs turned out.

Boy, your eggs look egg-zackly like eggs. (A little humor there)..Love your painting, and the idea you bought the eggs just to paint them. I think that is the sign of a TRUE artist.

These are awesome! I tried to make a general reply to let the whole of EDM know how great these came out but my Pocket PC crashed. I like the overall brown color, particularly in the background. From it, I draw - no pun intended - the importance of a grand color scheme. Thanks for painting this.

Oh wow. What a great job! I *love* the warm colours you were able to incorporate and how you did the shadows. Cheers! Mary Ellen

I love the tone of your eggs creation. The light on the paper when you took the picture even looks great. Turned out wonderful from here!

Oh, well done! This is great! I was just thinking how hard it would have been to do in watercolour, and you've done it! Great stuff. I love the warm colours and the loose style.

This is really fantastic. Not only did you master a tough subject, but you did it with wc on moleskine sketch paper (that adds to the toughness score -- if there was a score, that is.) Fabulous use of warm vs cool tones, analogous scheme yet rich, beautifully rendered, and wonderful values. Really, you should be thrilled with this!
