My cousin Phinny

Sunday I attended a baby shower and along with loads of good food, fun, mimosas and games, I won the table center piece - a vase of greenery containing a Betta fish. Our table named him Phenneous and shortened it to Phinny :-)
He now resides in my office. Of course I found him quite worthy of a sketch . I am still struggling with the paper in my journal but refuse to leave the book unfinished. I could not get the paint to flow and give me the watery effect I wanted. But my next journal will have Good Paper!! Still I like how this scanned.

What a great sketch! I have a set up like this thinking over a year ago the fish wouldn't last. Well Pepito is still swimming around his bowl! They are very pretty fish!

What a neat fish Sandy!! And the water is great also.

I know EXACTLY what you mean about letting go of an unsatisfactory sketchbook :) Just makes you sketch more to fill it up.

Oh Sandy. He's beautiful - so delicate! I'm still learning about WC paper. What are you using that you don't like?

Beautiful sketch, Sandy...love the colours!! I understand what you mean re. sketchbook paper....I started some cheap ones for my EDM challenges and have since regretted it as they buckle badly with watercolour. I do plan to fill them up though before moving onto better quality paper. I'll just work mainly in graphite and coloured pencil for now.

Phinny is very pretty...or handsome. And you did a nice job with the water and glass!

The paint may not have flowed the way you wanted it to but this painting is wonderful just the same. I love the beautiful blue you chose!

Sketch books are frustrating for painting, I agree totally! I keep telling myself that I'm going to make my own with GOOD paper...

I saw this and started missing my old Betta named Gill. I had a large clear glass bowl with a large plant growing in it so that Gill could swim around in it. I left it with a coworker when I moved from California the last time. Looked a lot like Phinny. I wonder if they were related. I wonder if they applied themselves they could learn to do tricks. I wonder if they would enjoy playing on a Slip And Slide. I just wonder. I know others wonder about me and look askew.
