Every time I see a new bug I remember mine, with great fondness. Although I shiver to think what would have happened had I even been in an accident with it.

Colors of spring

At least the colors of spring for Today - lots of pinks to come and yellows just leaving. I think I will do some rainbow pages as Karen has done on her amazing blog http://www.flickr.com/photos/karenblados/ . This page finishes my handbook journal, which I love for its size/format, and the pages take tons of water with no buckling, but I find the paper too spongy and my colors fade as they dry and hold very little intensity - so I am on to a new journal, larger and hopefully willing to sustain vibrant spring colors.

I had sketched a rolled up local newspaper for the "where you get your news" EDM challenge, so I decided to do a quick "after" version here.

Tribute

Big blue marble

Just speaks for its self. It was a gorgeous day in my part of the earth.

Chiminea

For years I have longed for a chiminea for the back yard/ pool area. My husband was sure I would some how burn the neighborhood down - so no chiminea.

This year he finally agreed to an outdoor fireplace, far back from the house though :-) It is being installed and I can't wait to enjoy that outdoor fire and remember our camping days, and maybe toast a marshmallow or two .

EDM #167 FIX

Funny there is not much needing repair around the house right now - a lovely chair needs re-caning but I decided I did not have the patience to sketch it. A long rock wall in the side yard is being rebuilt but almost done so past sketching - so I opted on this necessary fixture.

Shoes, shoes, shoes

This cool catalog spread of "totally Green shoes" caught my eye - I am a shoe junkie but mostly the sneaker, flip flop, Rocket Dog type ! I like the lavender ones I think?

Stress Reliever

It was a stressful Friday - and unfortunately I reach for sweets and chocolate is the sweet of choice - hence the 10 pounds I will forever need to lose . But Ahhh doesn't a simple Oreo taste good?!

EDM #166 Fish

This time of year my local nursery tantalizes me with all sorts of trees/shrubs, perennials/annuals, furniture/chimmineas, wind chimes/sculptures and on and on - but the Koi (or Coi) pond fascinates me. I took this picture a couple of weeks ago, but doubted I could ever sketch it - this challenge forced me to try . Difficult, but at least I can recognize the scene so I am happy.

EDM 165 Home

Sketching one's home is a lot like doing a self portrait, all too familiar with the subject and unable to view simplistically. This was a difficult subject for me , no matter how I tried I could not stop the over clutter and overwork. But here is our home. This was our starter house in 1972, smallish for the area and lots of finish work to do ourselves. Now 36 years later we have added on in every direction- including up. All three children grew up here and now the grandkids visit. Too much space for the two of us, but we love the neighborhood and proximity to the shore. There is little greenery right now but I added some to depict spring. The house is Long, so I tried this sketch (kind of a blob) and inked in the huge oaks that would have otherwise blocked the view. The best thing we ever added was the front porch! I Love architectural sketches but obviously need to work on this skill quite a bit!

Found today

Yesterday morning I skipped the gym and took a walk, glorious sunshine and almost above freezing! Things are way behind sprouting and blooming here but I did spy this first little crocus on my walk. Another harbinger of spring and very sketch worthy.
